10 skills children learn from the arts

Given that this week has seen a concerted attack on the arts in education on the news, it was rather nice to come across this article in the Washington Post.  It advocates a move away from the "current obsession with science, math, technology and engineering (STEM)" promoted in Lisa Phillip's book, “The Artistic Edge: 7 Skills Children Need to Succeed in an Increasingly Right Brain World"
It outlines this list of 10 skills children learn from the arts:
  1. Creativity
  2. Confidence
  3. Problem solving
  4. Perserverence
  5. Focus
  6. Non-verbal communication
  7. Receiving constructive feedback
  8. Collaboration
  9. Dedication
  10. Accountability

HP CP1025 review

This printer cost £99, so it's pretty bottom end for a colour laser jet. It's a decent looking bit of kit though, and doesn't feel cheap.
On my Mac set up it took a lot of setting up. I'm on my 2nd one now, and it's taken three months and some decent email support from HP to get drivers and firmware that sometimes works.
Unfortunately, it has extremely low memory and fails to print complex files, needing to be unplugged before it will work again. For this reason I'll be swapping it for a different model.

Early days with Freeway

Spent a couple of hours with Freeway 5.5. Looks scary to start with, but hasn't been that bad. I'd rather stick with iWeb to be honest, but Freeway does do a lot more.
